Elder Aimilianos of Simonopetra reposes in the Lord

Elder Aimilianos of Simonopetra Monastery reposed in the Lord on Thursday, May 9. The funeral will be held tomorrow in Annunciation monastery in Ormylia, Chalkidiki, Romfea News reports.

Elder Archimandrite Aimilianos, born Alexandros Vafides, who was the Prior of the Simonopetra Monastery from 1973 to 2000, was born in Piraeus in 1934. However, he had origin of Asia Minor.

He moved to Trikala in 1960 and was ordained as a monk on December 9, 1960.

In the same month he was ordained as a deacon and then he went to various monasteries of Meteora until he was ordained as a priest at the Monastery of Vitoumas, during the Feast of the Assumption in 1961.

At the end of 1973, the brotherhood of Meteoron moved to Mount Athos. Since the position of the Prior in the Holy Monastery was vacant due to the passing away of Archim. Charalambos, Elder Emilianos was officially elected as Prior by the brothers of the Monastery on November 25, 1973, and was enthroned on December 17 by the Holy Community.
