His Grace Bishop Teofil of Trotuș, assistant bishop of the Archdiocese of Roman and Bacău, called on Wednesday for Christians to become messengers of peace in a world troubled by wars and conflict.
He celebrated the Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts at the Deleni Skete. In his homily, the bishop said that many minds are darkened by evil and that prayer is needed for God to bring peace.
“There are wars and rumours of wars; people rise against one another, and the malice of the enemy darkens the minds of many, leading brothers to fight against brothers. The world is troubled because of these painful conflicts,” he said.
“We, as Christians, are called to be heralds and living witnesses of peace—a peace not made by people or borrowed from diplomatic treaties, but received from God, who is the source of peace.”
Preparing for the Light of the Resurrection
The bishop also explained to the faithful the connection between the Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts and the Resurrection of Christ.
“The Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts, which we have celebrated, is specific to this period. It includes the moment known as the Rite of Light, when the celebrant comes out of the altar with a lit candle and proclaims: ‘The light of Christ enlightens all.’ This gesture symbolises the light of Christ, which we await in fullness at Holy Pascha.”
“But this light is not only a visible one; it is a spiritual light that we are called to place in our hearts. The Fathers of old established unceasing prayer precisely to acquire this uncreated light. Therefore, let us prepare to receive the light of the Resurrection and to preserve it in our souls,” he said.
