Bessarabia Synod explores ways to strengthen relations with local communities

Last week, during an extraordinary session, the Synod of the Metropolis of Bessarabia addressed various pastoral, missionary, social, and administrative challenges that the Romanian Orthodox Church in the Republic of Moldova faces.

His Eminence Metropolitan Petru of Bessarabia, Bishop Antonie of Bălți, and Bishop Veniamin of Southern Bessarabia deliberated on matters pertaining to the effectiveness of pastoral endeavours within the congregations.

Topics included:

  • Strategies for strengthening the relationship between the Church and local communities;
  • The promotion of spiritual and moral values in society;
  • Implementing programs and initiatives to support believers in social or spiritual difficulties.

Additionally, the hierarchs considered fortifying relations between the communities of Romania and the Republic of Moldova.

“The resolutions reached throughout this assembly demonstrate the hierarchs’ profound dedication to the spiritual benefit of the Orthodox believers of the Republic of Moldova,” reads a press release following the Synod of the Metropolis of Bessarabia.

“Following the deliberations and consultations, clear directions of action were established, and concrete initiatives were planned to strengthen and support the spiritual life of the Orthodox communities.”

The local synod of the Metropolis of Bessarabia convened at the metropolitan residence in Chisinau on Thursday, March 7.
