His Eminence Metropolitan Petru of Bessarabia welcomed His Excellency the Ambassador of the United States of America to the Republic of Moldova, Dereck J Hogan, at his residence in Chișinău, on Wednesday, January 23, 2019.
This was the first time when Ambassador Hogan met with Metropolitan Petru after taking up his diplomatic mission in the Republic of Moldova.
During the meeting the two parts discussed topics related to the collaboration between the US Embassy to the Republic of Moldova and the Orthodox Metropolis of Bessarabia.
His Eminence wished the Ambassador a successful diplomatic mission, while also referring to the realities of religious life in the Republic of Moldova.
Metropolitan Petru presented aspects of the history of the Orthodox Church in Bessarabia.
US Ambassador Dereck J. Hogan thanked His Eminence for the warm welcome, while expressing his wish to have further meetings with the representatives of the Metropolis of Bessarabia and to develop joint projects.
Dereck J. Hogan
Ambassador Dereck J. Hogan is a career member of the U.S. Senior Foreign Service. Prior to being sworn in as Ambassador to U.S. Embassy in the Republic of Moldova, he served as the Deputy Executive Secretary of the U.S. Department of State.
Ambassador Hogan has a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Pittsburgh and a Master’s Degree in Public Affairs from the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University. He speaks Russian and Spanish. Mr. Hogan is married to Anny Hogan and they have a daughter named Hannah.
