On Good Friday, His Eminence Metropolitan Petru of Bessarabia met with Her Excellency Maia Sandu, President of the Republic of Moldova.

Metropolitan Petru discussed the objectives, pastoral duties, and social engagements of the Romanian Orthodox Church in Bessarabia. The metropolitan website reported that His Eminence emphasised the significance of peace and unity in society and praised the efforts of the clergy and communities of the Metropolis of Bessarabia to live and transmit this message to the entire world.

His Eminence reaffirmed the Metropolis of Bessarabia’s support for the European course pursued by the Republic of Moldova and emphasised the Church’s dedication to safeguarding and advancing Romanian spiritual and national values.

The Metropolitan of Bessarabia underscored the Republic of Moldova’s inevitable progression towards becoming a developed, secure, prosperous, democratic, and free nation. He articulated his aspiration for a harmonious and cohesive society both internally and in its interactions with neighbouring nations.

He underscored the importance of establishing a secure and prosperous nation for the children, enabling the diaspora to repatriate, reunite families, and rejoice in the Resurrection year-round, not just during the holiday season.

Furthermore, His Eminence Metropolitan Petru stated that the Romanian Orthodox Church in the Republic of Moldova strongly advises all devout individuals to resist succumbing to media manipulations and propaganda seeking to sow the populace’s dread and suspicion.

President Maia Sandu appreciates the activity of the Metropolis of Bessarabia

President Maia Sandu advocated for the Romanian Orthodox Church’s ecclesiastical engagement in Bessarabia to continue benefiting the faithful and society.

After the meeting, the Metropolitan of Bessarabia wished President Maia Sandu a joyous Easter and urged her to lead the nation with great courage and divine assistance.

His Eminence conveyed his admiration for the President of the Republic of Moldova’s foresight, demeanour, and valour, which guided the nation through the most arduous social circumstances—the Covid pandemic and the Ukraine conflict—into a positive direction.

The Metropolitan of Bessarabia presented President Maia Sandu with a bouquet, conveying his unwavering faith that the Lord would bestow upon her the fortitude exhibited by the myrrh-bearing women who remained by the side of Christ the Saviour, even during the most arduous moments of His redemptive mission.
