Romanian Patriarchate’s Media Centre signs photo archive agreement with Agerpres

On Thursday, the Basilica Media Centre of the Romanian Patriarchate signed a cooperation protocol with Agerpres, granting access to the National News Agency’s photo archive and photo stream for use throughout 2025 by Trinitas TV, Radio Trinitas, Basilica News Agency, Lumina Publications, and the Press Office of the Romanian Patriarchate.

The protocol was signed during a meeting held in the “Saint John Cassian” Hall at the Patriarchal Palace by His Grace Patriarchal Auxiliary Bishop Varlaam of Ploiești, coordinator of the Basilica Media Centre, and Claudia Nicolae, General Director of Agerpres.

Photos are a vital source of documentation

“Following more than a century of experience at the agency, promoting church-related news—especially in this centennial and jubilee year of the Romanian Patriarchate—is of great importance,” noted the Patriarchal Auxiliary Bishop.

Undoubtedly, he added, “these hundreds of thousands of photographs represent a treasure that must be made use of, and we thank God that we now have access to it.”

His Grace also emphasized that photographs are a vital source of documentation, which can serve as the foundation for modern and contemporary church history studies, as well as “an iconographic source of the highest importance.”

“We thank the General Director for her openness, congratulate her, wish her success in leading this venerable institution, and convey greetings and blessings from His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel, who appreciates this protocol between the Romanian Patriarchate, the Basilica Media Center, and the National Agency Agerpres,” added the bishop.

Rising Interest in Church News

Speaking about the collaboration with the Church, Agerpres General Director Claudia Nicolae noted that there has been growing interest in religious news in recent years, with the media trend shifting toward positive content.

“I am convinced that this partnership will be fruitful, as we too, as an Agency, aim to promote the work you are doing to our readers,” said Claudia Nicolae.

The agreement enables a broader collaboration between Agerpres and the Basilica Media Center, including photo sharing and organising exhibitions dedicated to the Centennial of the Romanian Patriarchate.
