The “Creative for Christ” Orthodox Children’s Short Film Competition announced its winners on Sunday at Bankstown, New South Wales, Australia.
Two Orthodox schools placed themselves equal first. The children from “St Sophia & Three Daughters” Greek Orthodox Church in Sidney and from “St Euphemia” College in Bankstown were awarded by His Grace Bishop Emilianos of Meloe.
The students of “St Euphemia” College produced the short film “Dystopic Virtues”, which has already been selected by the Orthodox streaming site IKONOMA and has also been entered in the preliminary selection process for Byzanfest Online Film Festival – 2021.
The children from the college in Bankstown integrated into their learning program the participation in the short film competition.
“The outcomes achieved from this project went beyond any syllabus outcome,” announced the management of the college.
Students experienced planning and creating a short film with an Orthodox spirit, they were able to experience being on a ‘live’ set and then to have a wider audience appreciate their short film, transmitted the organizers.
The event was initiated by a Christian Orthodox organization from Sidney, St Ypomoni Family and Friends Ministry, in partnership with Transfigure Media
Children aged 8 to 18 from the Greek Orthodox parishes in Australia participated in the short film competition. The theme of the inaugural edition was “The Fruit of the Spirit”.
Children received more prizes. One was a webinar with Chris Vlahonasis, founder of Transfigure Media, who spoke on Zoom on how to make short films.
Saint Ypomoni Family and Friends Ministries is an initiative of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia and it organizes educational and cultural programs for young families.
