Ascension of the Lord – Day of the Heroes, National Feast of the Romanian People (13 June 2013)

In the Romanian Orthodox Church the Feast of the Ascension of the Lord (13 June 2013) is the remembrance day of the heroes of the Romanian nation.

At the royal feast of the Ascension of the Lord, the Romanian heroes, soldiers and fighters of all times and places, who sacrificed themselves in battlefields, labour camps and prisons for defending their homeland and ancient faith, for the completion of the nation, for the freedom and dignity of the Romanian nation, are remembered in all Orthodox cathedrals, churches and monasteries of the country.

Remembrance services will be celebrated after the Divine Liturgy at the cemeteries, road side shrines and monuments dedicated to the heroes of the nation.

We remind the fact that as a result of the decisions of the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church of 1999 and 2001, the feast of the Ascension of the Lord was consecrated as Day of the Heroes and church national feast. At the same time, Law 379/2003 concerning the regime of the war graves and commemorative works proclaimed the 40th day after the Holy Easter, the feast of the Ascension of Jesus Christ, our Lord – Day of the Heroes, as national feast of the Romanian people.
