Romanian President Nicușor Dan sent a message on Wednesday marking the 75th birthday of Patriarch Daniel, praising the Romanian Orthodox Church’s contribution to national unity, education, philanthropy and the preservation of the country’s spiritual identity.
In his message, the President described the Patriarch’s leadership as a source of renewal and dialogue, while remaining firmly rooted in the foundational values of Christianity. He said Patriarch Daniel’s vision has strengthened the Church’s multifaceted mission and its engagement with contemporary society.
The head of state also highlighted the Romanian Orthodox Church’s role as one of the country’s most trusted institutions, particularly at a time marked by moral uncertainty, individualism and social fragmentation. He said the Church continues to unite Romanians at home and abroad through faith, cultural memory and a shared spiritual heritage.
President Dan further commended the Church’s commitment, under Patriarch Daniel’s leadership, to education, charitable work, support for vulnerable people, and the promotion of peaceful coexistence among Romania’s recognised religious communities and national minorities.
Concluding his message, the President wished Patriarch Daniel many blessed and fruitful years, expressing confidence that the Church would continue to offer examples of dedication, balance and hope for future generations.

On the occasion of Your Beatitude’s birthday, I extend my heartfelt congratulations and best wishes for good health, prosperity, and strength in fulfilling the high mission entrusted to you by the Romanian Orthodox Church.
This is a day of celebration for the entire Church, for the communities of faithful in Romania and throughout the diaspora, united around the values that the Church and the Orthodox tradition cultivate in society: faith, truth, solidarity, harmonious coexistence, pluralism, and the embrace of our spiritual roots.
Your Beatitude’s vision continues to inspire the Romanian Orthodox Church’s multifaceted mission, bringing a constant spirit of renewal, openness to communication, and mutual respect, while remaining firmly anchored in the foundational values of Christianity.
In a world often marked by relativism, individualism, moral confusion, and the erosion of spiritual reference points, the Romanian Orthodox Church remains one of the fundamental institutions in which Romanians place their trust. It fosters unity among the Romanian people through language, cultural memory, shared history, and a common spiritual identity.
The history of Romania and of Europe—Europa Christiana—reminds us that nations mature and leave a meaningful legacy to future generations when, through faith, they preserve a living conscience capable of resisting injustice and every form of degradation in public dialogue. The presence of the Church, therefore, makes a legitimate and essential contribution to the moral health of society and to the rebuilding of trust and solidarity.
