His Eminence Metropolitan Antonie of Bessarabia met on Tuesday with His Excellency Cristian-Leon Țurcanu, Romania’s Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, at the Metropolitan Residence in Chișinău.
During the meeting, the two discussed joint projects in education, culture, heritage preservation, social and charitable work, and support for Romanian communities on both sides of the Prut and Dniester rivers.
Metropolitan Antonie thanked the Romanian Embassy in the Republic of Moldova for its longstanding support of ecclesiastical, cultural and educational initiatives, highlighting the importance of cooperation between the Church and Romanian state institutions in preserving Romania’s spiritual and cultural heritage.
Close cooperation
In a Facebook post following the meeting, Ambassador Cristian-Leon Țurcanu said it was his first working meeting with the newly enthroned Metropolitan of Bessarabia and was aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two institutions.
“On this occasion, we jointly agreed on the need for close cooperation focused on tangible results between the Romanian Embassy and the Metropolis of Bessarabia, in order to strengthen pastoral and social activities for the benefit of all communities on this side of the Prut River,” the ambassador wrote.
Ambassador Țurcanu also expressed his support for the Metropolis of Bessarabia’s work.
“The mission of Metropolitan Antonie will not be an easy one, but I assured him of my full support and that of the embassy staff,” he said.
