17 March 2008 – Bishop MIHĂLȚAN IOAN passed away. Secondary studies at the Secondary School of “Saint Basil the Great” in Blaj (1939 – 1947); higher studies at the University Theological Institute of Sibiu (1947 – 1951): courses for a doctor’s degree – with special stress on Dogmatic Theology, Symbolics and Missionary Guidance – at the Theological Institute of Bucharest (1973 – 1976), at the Ecumenical Institute of Bosssey and at the Faculty of Protestant Theology in Strasbourg (1977 – 1978), Doctor in Theology in Bucharest, in 1985. Parish priest in Ohaba, county of Alba, from 1951 till 1990, father confessor (1979 – 1971), reader (1978 – 1987) and lecturer (1987 – 1990) for Missionary Guidance and Ecumenism at the Theological Institute of Sibiu; assistant hierarch to the Diocese of Oradea, with the title of “Crișanul” (1990 – 1992); Eparchial Bishop of Oradea (1992 – 2006), retired on 1 January 2007.
