Romanian sacred art exhibition in Italy raises funds for parish social home

A charity exhibition of Romanian sacred art inaugurated last weekend at Palazzo Chigi drew senior Romanian officials and art lovers, with proceeds aimed at supporting the renovation of a parish-run social centre.

The exhibition, hosted in Ariccia near Rome, seeks to raise funds for Saint George House, a social home built by the Romanian Orthodox parish in Genzano di Roma.

Speakers at the opening included Francesco Petrucci, curator of Palazzo Chigi; Carlo Zoccolotti, mayor of Genzano di Roma; representatives of the Romanian diplomatic corps; clergy of the Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Italy; and art historian Mihai Coman, the exhibition’s curator.

The opening was followed on Sunday evening by a lecture titled The Human Person as Icon, delivered by Mihai Coman at the Romanian parish church in Genzano di Roma.

Romanian ambassador visits exhibition

George Bologan, Romania’s ambassador to the Holy See and the Sovereign Order of Malta, visited the exhibition on Tuesday, praising the initiative and its effort to promote Romanian identity through iconography.

After visiting the exhibition, the ambassador also toured Saint George House, the parish social institution benefiting from the fundraiser.

About the exhibition

The icon exhibition, titled Prosopon—Greek for “Person”—features 40 works available for acquisition and remains open through April 25.

All donations and proceeds will be directed entirely toward renovation works at the parish social centre in Genzano di Roma.
