Romanian Patriarchate voices concern over Samson family case in Sweden, backs repatriation of children

The Romanian Patriarchate is concerned about the very difficult situation facing the Romanian Samson family in Sweden, following the separation of their two daughters, Sara and Tiana, from their parents, as a result of a decision by the Swedish local authorities on 2 December 2022.

The Church has always taught that the primary responsibility for the upbringing and formation of children rests with their parents, and that the family remains the natural and God-blessed environment for the harmonious development of children.

Furthermore, the Church defends the dignity of the family within society and continually encourages cooperation between the State and the Church in all areas relating to the social, educational, spiritual, and cultural welfare of the family.

Accordingly, we stand in solidarity with the Samson family and support the initiative undertaken by the Senate of Romania in its appeal to the Swedish State for the repatriation to Romania of the Samson family’s two daughters, so that the necessary conditions may be created for the restoration of family life and for the two sisters to live once again with their parents and younger brothers.

At the same time, we pray that God may grant strength and hope to the children and parents undergoing this severe trial, and that He may enlighten all those entrusted with resolving this situation.
