Fr. Alexandru Popescu, the Romanian Orthodox parish priest in Valletta, was invited to present the essence of the Romanian Orthodox faith to Maltese primary school pupils.
The educational event took place on Diversity Day in Malta at the prestigious San Anton School, located in the Imšelliet/Zebbiegħ area.
This school is renowned for its holistic educational approach, which cultivates 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, civic awareness, environmental sensitivity, and a lifelong love of learning.
Fr. Alexandru spoke to the children in simple, accessible language about the Holy Trinity, Jesus Christ as Saviour, and the importance of prayer and Orthodox worship. Using icons and liturgical objects brought to the classroom, he invited the pupils to discover the beauty and spiritual depth of the Romanian Orthodox tradition.

“It is a joy to speak about Christ and about our Orthodox Church among children, in such a friendly and open environment. I believe that occasions like this help us gently sow the seeds of faith, love, and mutual understanding,” said Fr. Alexandru Popescu.
His participation in this event highlights both the active presence of the Romanian parish in Malta and the Orthodox Church’s desire to bear witness to the faith in an increasingly multicultural society.
The teachers and welcoming spaces at San Anton School have earned praise for the warm, inclusive atmosphere they create.
The Romanian Orthodox Parish in Valletta, dedicated to the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist, has previously been visited by the President of Malta and invited to the Presidential Palace, with the Romanian community being cited as an example of successful integration.
