Romanian Orthodox community in Malta to host charity event ahead of National Day

On Saturday, November 30, the Parish Council of the Romanian Orthodox community in Malta will hold a charity event to celebrate the eve of Romania’s National Day. Participants are invited to wear traditional attire or a Romanian blouse.

Father George-Alexandru Popescu, parish priest in Valletta, announced the event on Facebook, explaining its purpose: raising funds to provide Christmas gifts for all the children in the parish.

“Those of you close to us already know that all children attending church on Christmas receive a small gift from us, regardless of their denomination or nationality,” wrote Father Popescu.

“Given that some of us are going through challenging times, we have always been grateful for the gifts donated by parents and faithful members of our parish.”

Celebration with Traditional Romanian Flavours

The evening will feature traditional Romanian food, dance, and music. Entry is based on voluntary contributions, with attendees encouraged to give as much as they can.

“Our goal is to feel a bit more Romanian, a bit closer to each other, with the same love and unity as in 1918,” added Father Popescu, referring to the year of Romania’s Great Union.

The event will take place at the Roman Catholic Theological Seminary in Rabat, Malta, from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM.

A Decade of Romanian Orthodox Presence in Malta

The Romanian Orthodox community in Malta recently celebrated ten years of ministry with a special event attended by Romanian Orthodox Bishop Siluan of Italy and Malta’s President, Myriam Spiteri Debono. The parish in Valletta is dedicated to the Nativity of St. John the Baptist.

For those unable to attend services regularly, the parish offers the option to send name lists online for prayers.
