The Romanian community in Malta will mark the 140th anniversary of Queen Marie of Romania’s arrival on the island with a cultural event on Saturday. The future queen spent part of her childhood in Malta.

The Romanian Orthodox Parish of the Nativity of St John the Baptist is organising the event in collaboration with Her Excellency Myriam Spiteri Debono, President of the Republic of Malta.

The programme will begin at 6:30 pm at San Anton Palace in Attard and will include artistic performances, cultural presentations and historical reflections.

Romanian roots, friendships in Malta

According to a Facebook post published by the parish, the cultural event celebrates “Romanian identity, our traditions and the historical bonds of friendship between Romania and Malta”.

“We want to bring together the Romanian community and our Maltese friends, celebrating what unites us.”

Attendance is by confirmation only. Those wishing to participate should email [email protected] with their name and the number of people attending.

The activities dedicated to Queen Marie are part of the project Romanian Identity and Culture in the Diaspora in Malta, funded by the Romanian Government’s Department for Romanians Abroad.
