Patriarchate of Alexandria establishes online Theological Academy of St Mark

His Beatitude Patriarch Theodoros of Alexandria and all of Africa last month announced that online courses of Orthodox theology will be available at the St. Mark’s Academy of the Patriarchate of Alexandria. According to the official website of the Patriarchate, those interested will be able to access Orthodox theology courses in English through email and social networks.

Students at the St. Mark’s Academy will be supervised by experienced teachers in the fields of church history, dogmatics, liturgics, Christian moral spirituality, pastoral theology, ecumenical movement, giving major importance to contemporary theological forms in the African world.

Visiting the South African Hellenic Educational and Technical Institute (SAHETI), Patriarch Teodor met with 1300 students and members of the Teachers’ Association.

In his speech, the Patriarch of Alexandria emphasized the importance of the work carried out by the SAHETI teachers and called them “Teachers in the Christ of the children”.

The Patriarch of Alexandria especially thanked Prof. Petros Parginos for his decisive contribution and efforts to set up the Academy of St. Mark. He also thanked the Chairman of the SAHETI Institute, Andreas Stephanou, for supporting the project and hosting the courses of the Academy.

The Patriarch has made public the initiative to organize the first South African youth festival under the auspices of the Metropolis of Johannesburg and Pretoria.

As reported by the website of the Patriarchate of Alexandria, His Beatitude Theodoros performed the blessing of the waters for the new school year at SAHETI, wishing the students strength, patience and perseverance in studies.

On the same day, Patriarch Theodoros met with the Ambassadors of the Orthodox countries carrying out their mission in South Africa, including His Excellency Marius Borănescu, the Ambassador of Romania to the Republic of South Africa.
