Orthodox Church representatives meet in Brussels to plan EU agenda

Representatives of the Orthodox Churches to the EU met on Tuesday for the first time this year during a working session held at the Orthodox Ambiorix Center in Brussels.

Metropolitan Athenagoras of Belgium chaired the meeting, which brought together representatives of the Romanian and Bulgarian Patriarchates and the Orthodox Church of Greece.

The Romanian Orthodox Church was represented by Fr. Sorin Șelaru, director of the Romanian Patriarchate’s representation in Brussels, and Fr. George Vâlcu, general secretary of the Committee of Representatives of the Orthodox Churches to the European Union (CROCEU).

During the meeting, representatives of the sister Orthodox Churches reviewed the agenda for the year and evaluated the visit made to the Ecumenical Patriarchate during the previous year.

Additionally, the committee members discussed the planning and progress of meetings with key leaders from the new European administration, both from the European Parliament and the European Commission, to advance the priorities on the Committee’s agenda.
