New church consecrated in Republic of Moldova as Metropolitan Petru praises love for God’s house

A new church was consecrated on Saturday in Cornești, Republic of Moldova, where Metropolitan Petru of Bessarabia celebrated the Divine Liturgy and underscored the significance of the occasion, saying: “May God protect those who love His house.”

His Eminence highlighted the enduring value of works undertaken for God and for the community.

“All our work, if we wish to do it, should be such that God may see it — and if people see it as well, then let them give thanks, because there is a desire for good to be accomplished.”

“If we do a work for God, I know it remains for the benefit of people — for those who will come and pray,” he noted.

Care for the Soul as Well as the Body

The Metropolitan of Bessarabia also stressed the importance of concern for spiritual life.

“I value such things; I value those people who care for the soul and not only for the body.”

The church, placed under the protection of Saint Arsenius the Great and Saint Arsenius of Prislop, was built with the support of the local community.

Founders Honoured

In recognition of their contribution to the building of the church, the founders and benefactors received diocesan orders and diplomas, with their support for the development of ecclesial life in the community being specially acknowledged.

The new church is distinguished by a neo-Byzantine-inspired architecture adapted to the contemporary context.
