Monastic Synaxis in the Archdiocese of Bucharest

The Synaxis of the Abbots and Abbesses in the Archdiocese of Bucharest took place Thursday, 3 November 2016, at Pasărea Monastery, Ilfov County. His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, chaired the session.

His Grace Timotei of Prahova, Assistant Bishop to the Archdiocese of Bucharest, and Archimandrite Nectarie Şofelea, Exarch of Monasteries in the Archdiocese, also attended the meeting.

In his opening speech, the Romanian Patriarch presented the agenda of the meeting.

The monasteries must be supported so that they can intensify their activities, His Beatitude said.

We want to thank God for the increasing number of monastics, and for the activities, they have carried out so far. All monasteries are involved in many spiritual, cultural, missionary and social works, according to their possibilities. In order to become even more involved, they have to be supported. In other words, so that the people receive even more help, the Diocesan Centre, sponsors, authorities etc. must assist the monasteries.

Next, Archimandrite Policarp Chițulescu, director of the Library of the Holy Synod, presented a report entitled “Digitizing the archives and the library of a monastery. Case study: The Library of the Holy Synod”.

The same day, before the works of the Synaxis started, His Grace Bishop Timotei celebrated the Divine Liturgy.
