Romanian Metropolitan in Americas urges honour for Christian mothers at Annunciation Liturgy in Ohio

His Eminence Metropolitan Nicolae of the Romanian Orthodox Metropolis of the Americas called for honouring Christian mothers during an address delivered at the Romanian parish in Olmsted Township, Ohio, United States.

On March 25, Metropolitan Nicolae celebrated the Divine Liturgy to mark the patronal feast of the Annunciation Parish.

“Through this calling and this acceptance, the Virgin Mary is regarded as the model of the Church, because the Church is the meeting between man and God. In the Church, we all come to meet God, and this encounter between man and God was fully realized in the person of the Virgin Mary, for God Himself descended into her womb.”

“On this day when we honour the Mother of God, it is fitting that we also honour all Christian mothers—those who have given life to their children and then have taken care to raise them in the Christian faith. A child is brought into the world through the love of the parents, but must also receive the proper education to become a good Christian and a child of the Church.”

“The responsibility of motherhood is fulfilled not only through birth, but also through the upbringing of children. In time, our children, once educated, will themselves become parents, and if they have received a Christian upbringing, they will pass it on,” the metropolitan said.

According to the Metropolis of the Americas, two days before the feast, a fragment of the Holy Cross was brought to the parish, where more than 3,000 faithful came to venerate it.
