Maicaneasa Church Of Bucharest Consecrated

On 19 June 2016 His Grace Timotei Prahoveanul, Assistant Bishop to the Archdiocese of Bucharest, consecrated Maicaneasa church of Bucharest. After consecration, the hierarch celebrated the Divine Liturgy on a scene specially arranged near the place of worship.

His Grace delivered a sermon in which he said that on the Pentecost day, the Descent of the Holy Spirit, the Apostles received several gifts.

First of all they received two great gifts: courage and wisdom, so that the fruits of the sermons of Saint Peter and Saint John, and of the other Apostles too were visible right away. Judeans from all over the world had come to the Temple of Jerusalem for the Pentecost feast, Maicaneasa: Parts, Metzs, Elamites, Arabs, people from Asia Minor, Crete and Rome who spoke various languages, but who knew a few prayers in the Aramaic language too, the language spoken in Jerusalem at the time, which the Saviour spoke too. Nevertheless they all understood the words of the Apostles. They spoke several languages as the Spirit inspired them so that after Saint Peter’s and Saint John the Evangelist’s sermons at least 3,000 people followed Christ – the Assistant Bishop to the Archdiocese of Bucharest said.

The day of the Descent of the Holy Spirit represents the foundation of the visible Church, His Grace Timotei Prahoveanul also underlined.

The Pentecost day or of the Descent of the Holy Spirit is considered to mark the beginning of the Church which the Saviour founded and which the Holy Spirit made visible in the world, be formed, namely be strong enough for the people who did not accept the saving teaching that the Son of God had brought into the world. From that time forward, after the sermon of Saint Peter the Apostle, the Apostles went to accomplish the commandment of the Saviour, namely to go up to the end of the world and preach the Gospel to all people.

After the Divine Liturgy, the special Pentecost Vesper service was celebrated.

In the end, the hierarch thanked all those who helped with the construction of the place of worship.

Maicaneasa parish is located in 13-15 Ionescu-Sisesti Gheorghe St., district 1, Bucharest.
