In numbers: Support for Ukrainian refugees in Moldova offered by the Diaconia Social Mission

Last month, Diaconia Social Mission published on social media relevant figures for the support it provided in 2023 to vulnerable people in the Republic of Moldova. The organisation also recently detailed the aid it provided last year to Ukrainian refugee mothers and their children.

Thousands of adult refugees have received psychological, legal and vocational counselling and hundreds of children have benefited from educational services.

Through the Multifunctional Centre for Child and Family “St. Anne”, the Diaconia Social Mission provided the following forms of assistance, mostly for the benefit of refugees:

  • 4452 refugees applied for help or support;
  • 619 people received psychological counselling;
  • 926 women from Ukraine socialised in a safe environment, benefiting from various creative workshops and workshops organised by the psychologist;
  • 193 refugees received vocational counselling;
  • 1504 families from the Republic of Moldova benefited from food and hygiene products;
  • 258 children benefited from drop-off services (68 Moldovan children 𝘴̦𝘪 190 Ukrainian children);
  • 473 children benefited from after-school services (147 Moldovan children and 326 Ukrainian children).
  • 294 people benefited from legal consultations.

The organisation also provided long-term accommodation for nine refugee mothers and their children (18 people), and four refugee children attended the “Gâgâlici” Early Education Centre.

Diaconia Social Mission was also involved in the distribution of financial assistance provided by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to 50,000 refugees, according to data released on social media late last month.


Diaconia Social Mission is the philanthropic organization of the Metropolis of Bessarabia and is part of the Federation of Philanthropy, the only non-governmental organization of federative type in the Romanian Patriarchate.
