Bălți Diocese opens educational centre for Ukrainian refugee children

On June 15, His Grace Bishop Antonie of Bălți officiated a blessing service at the opening of the Anastasis Educational Centre, where Ukrainian children displaced to Bălți can continue their online studies and keep in touch with their teachers and colleagues in different parts of Europe.

The “Anastasis” Centre has been integrated into the cultural-educational mission of the Diocese.

The event was attended by His Excellency Petrișor Ionel Dumitrescu, Consul General of Romania in Bălți, Igor Belei, director of the Diaconia Social Mission of the Metropolis of Bessarabia, Katherine Rehberg and Steave Weaver, representatives of Church World Service, as well as a mother with children from Kyiv.

Although currently for Ukrainian children, the “Anastasis” Educational Centre will, in time, also support children from Bălți and the northern parts of the Republic of Moldova.

The “Anastasis” Educational Centre has been active since May 16. However, the official opening ceremony was postponed due to the refugee crisis and the immediate need to integrate and help them.

So far, about 60 Ukrainian children have benefited from distance learning and participated in integration and socialization activities.
