Romanian Orthodox Women’s Association in America sets future mission priorities at Canada Congress

The Romanian Orthodox Women of America established its future missionary priorities and objectives during the AROLA Congress, held from 1–3 May at Mono Monastery.

The event began on Friday, May 1, with the official opening, followed by the supplicatory canon to the Mother of God.

The following day commenced with Matins and the Divine Liturgy, followed by a memorial service for the departed.

Conference and Pilgrimage

The congress proceedings opened with a lecture delivered by Mother Gabriela of the Dormition of the Mother of God Monastery, in Rives Junction, USA, on the mission of women in the contemporary world.

Activity and financial reports were then presented, ongoing projects discussed, and future objectives established.

A key item on the agenda was the election of a new AROLA committee.

Saturday’s programme also included a pilgrimage around the grounds of Mono Monastery, during which participants venerated a vestment that had touched the relics of saints Cleopas Ilie and Paisius Olaru of Sihăstria Monastery.

At the conclusion of the pilgrimage, participants attended Vespers.

Responsibility and Communication

On Sunday, AROLA members attended the Divine Liturgy celebrated by His Eminence Metropolitan Nicolae Condrea.

In his address, Metropolitan Nicolae emphasised the responsibility borne by both the newly elected AROLA committee and all members of the organisation. Each, he said, is called to identify existing challenges and contribute genuine solutions.

The Metropolitan also encouraged stronger collaboration among all parishes by improving communication with clergy and women in local communities.

The Example of the Myrrh-Bearing Women

His Grace Bishop Ioan Casian of Canada highlighted the fruitful work of women in Romanian communities across the diaspora, who continue to preserve and transmit the faith inherited from their homeland.

Bishop Ioan Casian encouraged AROLA members not to be discouraged by obstacles or criticism, recalling Christ’s assurance that His disciples would encounter hostility in the world.

The Bishop of Canada pointed to the example of the Holy Myrrh-Bearing Women, who showed faith and sacrificial love and were rewarded by the Risen Christ.
