Archbishop Pimen to be buried at Sihastria Putnei Monastery – Patriarchate’s spokesperson

The Romanian Patriarchate’s Spokesperson Vasile Banescu announced Wednesday that the burial of Archbishop Pimen will take place at Sihăstria Putnei Monastery, in Suceava.

Archbishop Pimen of Suceava and Rădăuți, 90, reposed in the Lord on Wednesday, May 20, 2020, at the Matei Balș Infectious Diseases Institute in Bucharest following a second heart attack.

“The Romanian Orthodox Church today lost a worthy hierarch, the one who was the Archbishop of Suceava and Radauti for the last 29 years and whose name, along with those of its predecessors, will always remain linked to the protection of Bukovina’s splendid monasteries,” declared Vasile Bănescu.

The spokesman recalled a word that Archbishop Pimen always said: “That is why I became a priest, to learn to die every day. We prepare for the great encounter with Him every day.”
The funeral’s details will be set by the Archdiocese of Suceava together with the Metropolis of Moldavia and Bukovina.

“According to the legislation in force for the cases of deceased people diagnosed with Covid-19, after being placed in the sealed coffin, he will be taken over by the Archdiocese of Suceava and Radauti, which, together with the Metropolis of Moldavia and Bukovina, will decide the date and details of the funeral.”
