Fr Florentin Dobrescu, parish priest of the Romanian Orthodox community in Lisbon, blessed three newly appointed officers of Portugal’s Public Security Police (PSP) on Pentecost Sunday as they began their careers in law enforcement.
One of the new officers is Romanian, another Ukrainian, and the third a Portuguese convert to the Romanian Orthodox Church. All three wished to mark the beginning of their public service careers within their faith community.
The blessing service was held at the Chapel of Saints Crispin and Crispinian in Lisbon, where the young officers were accompanied by Fr Luís Leal, chaplain of the Public Security Police.
Fr Florentin Dobrescu presented the new officers with symbolic gifts, reminding them of their Christian duty to serve their neighbour with love and dedication, in obedience to the commandments of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
The Romanian Orthodox Parish in Lisbon is also dedicated to the Feast of the Entry of the Mother of God into the Temple.
