Swedish man baptised into Orthodox Church in Gothenburg: Sowing together the seeds of the Gospel

Bishop Macarie of Northern Europe baptised a 26-year-old Swedish man, Alexander-Orest James, on Sunday at the Diocesan Metochion in Gothenburg.

The baptism took place after the Divine Liturgy celebrated by the Romanian hierarch on the fifth Sunday of Great Lent.

“I give glory to the All-Merciful God that our Swedish brother, Alexander, has now received Holy Illumination. He is surrounded by both Romanian and Swedish young people from the Saint Stephen the Great Youth Centre,” the bishop said.

“These are missionary young people—Romanian, Swedish, Norwegian, Faroese and others—together sowing the seeds of the Gospel, hoping that even in hardened hearts we may find at least a patch of fertile ground where the seed may grow and bear fruit,” he added.

Bishop Macarie also recently baptised a Greenlander, who received the name Saint Cleopas of Sihăstria.
