Winners of the Contest of the „Orthodox Icon – Light of the Faith” Awarded Prizes

Saturday, 21 May 2016, the winners of the contest of the Orthodox Icon – Light of the Faith – 5th edition were awarded prizes in Europa Christiana hall of the Palace of the Patriarchate. The winners received the awards from the Primate of the Romanian Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel, after the Divine Liturgy celebrated on the occasion of the historical patronal feast of the Patriarchal Cathedral.

This year the sections were the following:

  1. Painting on wood (tempera, Brâncoveanu style)
  2. Painting on glass (tempera, Romanian traditional style)

The meeting of the commission analysing the works enrolled in the contest was held on 21 April 2016, at Saint Constantine and Helen Centre for Patrimony in Bucharest.

On this occasion, the opening of the Orthodox Icon – Light of the Faith exhibition was held. The exhibition will be opened from 23-25 May 2016, at 14.00–16.00 hours.

From 1 February–21 May 2016, Saint Constantine Brâncoveanu Centre for Cultural Patrimony and the Theological–Educational Department of the Romanian Patriarchate organised, with the blessing of His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel and approval of the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church, the National Contest entitled the Orthodox Icon – Light of the Faith – the 5th edition, 2016. The general purpose of the National Contest of the Orthodox Icon – Light of the Faith is to preserve the religious and cultural traditions, by valuing the talents in the church painting field.
