Southern Bessarabia Diocese: Evaluating past achievements and setting new goals

The Standing Diocesan Council of the Diocese of Southern Bessarabia met on September 5 at the diocesan headquarters in Cahul. The agenda included evaluating the activities of the past four years and setting pastoral, missionary, and catechetical priorities for the future.

The meeting was chaired by His Grace Bishop Veniamin of Southern Bessarabia.

In retrospect, it was noted that the Diocese of Southern Bessarabia “is developing with good dynamics, and the advisory priests and deans have responded to the requests of the clergy and faithful with efficiency, finding canonical and pastoral solutions for each new situation.”

During the meeting, His Grace highlighted the need for solidarity among the clergy, good theological training, experience and maturity, obedience and responsible involvement at the community level.

At the same time, the need for the faithful to be involved in educational, cultural, and social-philanthropic activities was underlined.

“Particular attention was paid to educational activities, with priests being encouraged to be present in schools and to form teams of volunteers to help them in their mission,” representatives of the Diocese of Southern Bessarabia said.

The resolutions adopted at the end-of-year meeting included improving communication with the Diocesan Center, encouraging active collaboration between parish communities and deaneries, and recommending the consolidation of monasteries.

In conclusion, the Bishop of Southern Bessarabia thanked the deans and priests for their work and encouraged them to remain steadfast, faithful, and responsible in the ministry to which they were called.

“To fulfil our mission, we must work with humility and self-giving,” His Grace said.
