Romfilatelia issues postal tribute to Synaxis of the Holy Romanian Women

Romfilatelia has issued a commemorative postal stationery item dedicated to the Synaxis of the Holy Romanian Women, marking the inclusion in the Church calendar of the 16 women saints canonised by the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church and proclaimed in 2026.

The philatelic piece reproduces the icon of the Synaxis, highlighting the portraits of these models of holiness and confession from the history of the Church.

The postal issue also includes the names of all 16 saints together with their feast days, offering the public an informative introduction to the liturgical calendar.

Accompanying the issue is a stamp with a face value of 5.50 lei depicting Saint Elizabeth of Pasărea, one of the newly canonised saints, commemorated on 5 June.

Romfilatelia has issued a commemorative postal stationery item dedicated to the Synaxis of the Holy Romanian Women.

In the context of the Centennial of the Romanian Patriarchate, Romfilatelia has also issued a separate postal stationery item dedicated to the 16 saints canonised by the Romanian Orthodox Church and entered into the Orthodox calendar for 2025.

The commemorative issue is available for purchase through the Romfilatelia website.

Canonisation of the Holy Romanian Women

The canonisation of the 16 holy women was approved by the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church at its working session on 1 July 2025.

The official proclamation of canonisation took place on 6 February 2026, in the context of the Solemn Year of the Pastoral Care of the Christian Family and the Commemorative Year of the Holy Women of the Calendar.

The commemoration of the holy women of the calendar — Myrrh-Bearing Women, martyrs, venerable mothers, monastics, wives and mothers — brings to the fore the Orthodox understanding that Christian womanhood is honoured for its essential contribution both within the family and in the ecclesial community.
