Romanian Orthodox Bishop meets Torrevieja Mayor to discuss land grant for new church

His Grace Bishop Timotei of Spain and Portugal met on Thursday with Eduardo Dolón Sánchez, the mayor of Torrevieja, in the Spanish Community of Valencia. The two discussed the possibility of granting a plot of land free of charge to construct a place of worship for the Romanian community in the area.

Also present at the meeting were Archdeacon Spiridon Burlacu, diocesan economic advisor; Jean-Paul Mulero, municipal advisor; and Father Sorin Cosmin Trică, parish priest of the Romanian Orthodox community in Torrevieja.

As a sign of appreciation and blessing, His Grace offered the mayor an icon of the Mother of God with the Christ Child, crafted in the diocese’s workshop.

Torrevieja is located on the Mediterranean coast in southeastern Spain, near Murcia and Alicante.
