An exhibition of traditional Romanian folk costumes was held at the Diocesan Centre in Dublin to mark the Universal Day of the Romanian Blouse.
The exhibition, organised at the end of last week, featured traditional costumes from several regions of Romania, highlighting the expression of Romanian national identity within the community of the Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Ireland and Iceland.
Visitors had the opportunity to rediscover the beauty of Romanian traditions and to reflect on the importance of preserving and promoting this cultural heritage, particularly within the diaspora, where cultural and spiritual identity remains an essential point of reference for both present and future generations.
The Romanian blouse (ia) is hand-embroidered and handed down from one generation to the next. It reflects the values, faith and beauty of Romanian culture, preserving the living connection between past and present.
The Universal Day of the Romanian Blouse has been celebrated since 2013. In June 2022, Romanian legislation officially designated 24 June as the Universal Day of the Romanian Blouse.
