The new headquarters of the Consulate General of Romania in Birmingham was blessed on Monday by Archbishop Atanasie of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
The blessing ceremony took place in the presence of the Consul General Mihaela Savu and members of the consular staff.
During the event, speakers highlighted the importance of ongoing dialogue between state institutions and Romanian communities abroad, as well as the role of Orthodox parishes in safeguarding spiritual and cultural identity.
“Bridges of Trust”
Archbishop Atanasie emphasised the pastoral and community significance of the moment.
“Wherever Romanians are found, institutions and the Church are called to work together for their good: to encourage them, to support them, and to remind them that they are not alone.”
“When service becomes communion, our work becomes a blessing for the entire community,” the Archbishop said.
He called for all activities of the consulate to keep “the human being be placed at the centre, with his dignity and needs,” underlining that a consulate close to the people provides essential support for the pastoral mission of the parishes.
“Together we can build bridges of trust, help, and identity for Romanians far from their home country,” Archbishop Atanasie added.
The consulate was established in 2023 and serves Romanians in the West and East Midlands, Gloucestershire and Wales.
