Romania’s National Cathedral of Romania has been recreated in a virtual environment as part of a project developed on the Orthocraft server within the video game Minecraft.
“This build captures the immense scale of the real cathedral, from the vast interior and towering dome to the iconography, chandeliers, and architectural details, all recreated with accuracy and reverence for the Orthodox tradition,” the creator of the Minecraft server said in a post published on his Instagram page.
The cathedral can be freely explored by users of the server, who can also discover other churches, monasteries and Orthodox complexes reconstructed from various parts of the world. Those interested may also join the community and contribute to rebuilding spaces inspired by Christian heritage.
The Orthocraft server is described as the first in the world dedicated exclusively to the Orthodox Christian faith, sacred architecture, history and Christian community life. The initiative aims to bring together gaming enthusiasts, young people, digital creators and believers in a virtual space in which faith is expressed through creativity and respect for Christian tradition.
A game built around creativity
Minecraft is an independent sandbox video game written in the Java programming language. It was originally developed by Markus Persson and later by the Swedish company Mojang Studios.
The game focuses on creativity and construction, allowing players to build in a three-dimensional world using a wide variety of blocks.
The Orthocraft server can be accessed free of charge by all players who own a legal copy of Minecraft and have access to the internet.
