A delegation from Putna Monastery, led by Archimandrite Melchisedec Velnic, abbot of the holy monastery, recently visited the United States, where they took part in the patronal feast—celebrated in advance—of St. Demetrius Monastery in Middletown, New York.
On this occasion, Archimandrite Melchisedec Velnic and Archimandrite Ieremia Berbec, abbot of the Romanian monastery in Middletown and former member of the Putna community, visited His Eminence Saba, Antiochian Metropolitan of North America.
Metropolitan Saba invited the Romanian archimandrites to dine with him and exchanged gifts. The gift from Putna Monastery included an icon of Saint Jacob of Putna, Metropolitan of Moldavia.
Metropolitan Saba Isper of the Antiochian Church and Archimandrite Melchisedec Velnic share a long-standing friendship; last week’s meeting offered an opportunity to recall fond memories from the Putna abbot’s 2005 visit to Syria.
