Pope Francis to visit Patriarchate’s Palace and National Cathedral

His Holiness Pope Francis will pay a visit to our country on May 31 – June 2, 2019 at the invitation of the President of Romania, the state authorities and the Catholic Church in Romania.

The schedule of the visit to the Romanian Patriarchate includes a meeting with His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel and the members of the Permanent Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church at the Palace of the Patriarchate on Friday, May 31, 2019, at 15.45 p.m.

Following the meeting, at 17.00 p.m., Pope Francis will visit the National Cathedral, where he will be welcomed by His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel, who will address a paschal welcome message, followed by the response message of His Holiness.

Next, the program of the visit at the National Cathedral includes the Lord’s prayer in Latin, followed by Catholic Easter songs.

After their completion, the Our Father will be offered in Romanian language, followed by Orthodox Easter chants.

The program does not include officiating a joint liturgical service, but distinct and consecutive musical moments, in accordance with the decision of the Holy Synod and the practice in the Romanian Diaspora when using the same place of worship.

Exiting the Cathedral, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel and Pope Francis will greet the believers present with the paschal greeting: ‘Christ is risen!’

Those who wish to attend the event are welcome to come to the esplanade of the National Cathedral beginning with 14.00 p.m.

The Romanian Patriarchate’s Trinitas TV station will offer live streaming for the entire event.

After the visit, the National Cathedral will remain closed to public, since finishing works will be resumed.
