Patriarch Daniel welcomes Abbot Ephraim of Vatopedi at the patriarchal residence

His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel welcomed the Very Reverend Archimandrite Ephraim, the abbot of Vatopedi Monastery on Mount Athos, at the Patriarchal Residence in Bucharest on Tuesday.

Discussions during the meeting included potential areas of cooperation between Vatopedi Monastery and the Romanian Patriarchate.

“The encounter was extremely enjoyable. I met Patriarch Daniel, who is a great personality. He is a man who knows spiritual things and is a hope for the Romanian Orthodox Church, but also for the entire Orthodoxy.”

“We talked about a range of issues, namely how Vatopedi Monastery and the Romanian Orthodox Church may work together. We discussed many viewpoints and ideas, which you will see when they come to pass,” Abbot Ephraim told Radio Trinitas.

The Romanian Patriarch gave Vatopedi Monastery a collection of the Romanian Philokalia in honour of the visit. He presented Archimandrite Ephraim with a parallelepiped prism made of crystal that featured a three-dimensional image of Romania’s National Cathedral.

The abbot of Vatopedi Monastery presented Patriarch Daniel with a copy of the Tetraevangelion manuscript in gold, given to the Athonite monastery by the Byzantine Emperor John VI Kantakouzenos (1347-1354).

Abbot Ephraim of Vatopedi attended the International Symposium of Theology held at the Palace of the Patriarchate in Bucharest between October 9-12, 2022.
