Former Romania national football team coach Mircea Lucescu was commemorated last Friday at a memorial service marking 40 days since his passing. The service was held at the social canteen of the Saint Nectarios Centre in Lada, Teleorman County.
Fr Florin Danu, parish priest of the local community, said in a Facebook post that the Lucescu family offered more than 100 meals to beneficiaries of the social centre. Mircea Lucescu’s son, football manager Răzvan Lucescu, attended the event.
“A gesture that deeply moved us was the fact that Mr Răzvan Lucescu was not only present, but personally served the children and beneficiaries of our centre, staying close to people with great discretion and warmth of soul,” Fr Florin Danu wrote.
“In a world where many choose to help from a distance, there are also people who come in person, look a child in the eye, exchange a few words with an elderly person, and offer not only a warm meal, but also respect, attention and humanity.”
“May God receive his memorial and bless this family,” the parish priest added, thanking the family for their gesture and for the example offered to the community.
Mircea Lucescu reposed in the Lord on 7 April at the age of 80 and was buried on 10 May at Bellu Cemetery in Bucharest.
