On Monday, 27 July, Archbishop Timotei of Arad received Metropolitan Sevastianos of Atlanta from the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America (Ecumenical Patriarchate).
Archbishop Timotei introduced his guest to the new Holy Trinity Archdiocesan Cathedral in Arad. According to the archdiocese, Metropolitan Sevastianos was “deeply impressed by the beauty and grandeur” of the cathedral.
The visit continued at Hodoș-Bodrog Monastery, where the Greek hierarch was welcomed by the monastic community.
Protosyncellus Nicolae Tang, a lecturer at the “Ilarion V. Felea” Faculty of Orthodox Theology in Arad and a member of the monastery’s brotherhood, presented the history of one of Romania’s oldest monastic settlements.
The visiting metropolitan toured the monastery’s historic church and learned about its Byzantine-inspired iconographic programme, the summer chapel, and the bishops’ crypt. He was also introduced to the monastery’s museum collections, with particular emphasis on its Slavonic and Middle Bulgarian manuscripts and notable examples of early printed books.
At the conclusion of the visit, Archbishop Timotei presented Metropolitan Sevastianos with an icon of the Holy Hieromartyr Hilarion Felea, venerated as the heavenly protector of the Archdiocese of Arad and its theological schools.
