To the Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Antioch and All the East
It is with deep Christian sorrow that we have learned of the passing away of our beloved brother in Christ, the worth of remembering Ignatius IV, Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, an outstanding personality of contemporary Christian world.
He was gifted by God with special charismata in order to accomplish his holy mission as a servant of Christ, remarking himself through a vast theological culture, a special care for the Church and a great openness towards inter-Christian and interreligious dialogues.
At this time of great loss for the Patriarchate of Antioch and for the entire Orthodoxy, on behalf of the hierarchs, clergy and faithful of the Romanian Orthodox Church, we address to you our fraternal condolences, praying Christ the Lord, the Eternal High Priest, to rest the soul of Patriarch Ignatius with the righteous and bring consolation and strength in faith to the entire Orthodox people from the venerable Patriarchate of Antioch.
May his memory be eternal!
