The life of the Church Fathers promotes peace in souls and society: Patriarch Daniel’s message to Bose Int’l Conference

His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel sent a message to the participants of the 28th International Inter-Christian Conference on Orthodox Spirituality, held on September 6-9, 2022, at Bose Monastery in Italy.

His Beatitude expressed his appreciation to the organizers, who have been promoting Orthodox spirituality and patristic theology for almost three decades.

“In today’s world, dominated by selfishness and greed, which in turn trigger much division and conflict, the life of prayer and repentance of the Church Fathers is a sure way to promote peace and harmony in the human soul and, by extension, in the society in which it lives,” the Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church noted.

Isaac of Nineveh – a teacher of peace and prayer in today’s troubled world: Full text

Dear Rev. Prior Sabino Chialà,

Dear participants,

First of all, we would like to express our appreciation for the initiative of the Monastery of Bose, which for almost three decades has been promoting Orthodox patristic spirituality and theology.

The theme of this year’s conference, Saint Isaac of Nineveh (the Syrian) and his spiritual teaching, highlights one of the seminal teachers of hesychasm (stillness) and prayer that is sought after, especially by monks, but also needed by today’s troubled world.

The year 2022 has been proclaimed by the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church as the Solemn Year of Prayer in the Church’s life and the Christian’s life and Commemorative Year of the Hesychast Saints Symeon the New Theologian, Gregory Palamas and Paisius (Velichkovsky) of Neamt, imitators of Saint Isaac and teachers of prayer for many generations of monastics and Christians seeking salvation.

In today’s world, dominated by selfishness and greed, which in turn trigger much division and conflict, the Church Fathers’ life of prayer and repentance is a sure way to promote peace and harmony in the human soul and, by extension, in the society in which it lives.

We pray to the Saviour Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, to bless the organizers and all the participants of the 28th International Inter-Christian Conference on Orthodox Spirituality and to give them much joy through the intercession of Saint Isaac of Nineveh.
