Hundreds of Faithful Celebrated The Resurrection of the Lord in Paris

Hundreds of faithful were present on the Resurrection night in the Metropolitan Cathedral of “Saints Archangels Michael, Gabriel and Rafael” in Paris. The Resurrection service and Divine Liturgy were celebrated by His Eminence Iosif, Romanian Orthodox Metropolitan of Western and Southern Europe, together with a group of priests and deacons.

In the sermon delivered, His Eminence showed that Christ, our Lord, calls us to change our life, to take up His light, but it depends on every one of us if we succeed in finding the way to His light.

“The light that you receive tonight is only the beginning; let us be really enlighten by it and receive it with pure thoughts. So help us God, each one of us!”, His Eminence said.

The Cathedral of Paris, a monument of architecture in the France of the 14th century, and of culture and spirituality for Romania, bears this double load and historical legacy. The foundation stone of the church was laid on 30 January 1374, by the King of France himself, Charles V. The construction of the church of Dormans-Beauvais College ended in 1380 and on 29 April the same year, it was consecrated by the Archbishop of Paris. But the first public service was celebrated on 29 November 1382, on the feast of Saint Michael the Archangel. 500 years later, in 1882, the church was bought by the Romanian Kingdom.
