Orthodox and Catholic theologians and lay people will come together at the Halki Summit V in Istanbul between June 8 and 11, to dicuss on a sustainable future for our planet.
The 5th edition of the summit is entitled Sustaining the Future of the Planet Together. It has been inspired by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and Pope Fracis, who share the same view on the relationship between sustainability of the planet and salvation of the world.
Four Romanian are on the list of participants: Fr. Ciprian Ion Ioniță, the patriarchal counsellor coordinating social and philanthropic activities in the Romanian Orthodox Church, Fr. Vasile Stanciu, Director of the Isidor Todoran Doctoral School at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology of the “Babeș-Bolyai” University of Cluj-Napoca, Fr. Ioan Chirilă, Full Professor, and Cristiana Sporea, doctoral student, both at the above-mentioned faculty.
The keynote speaker of the opening event is Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I. Mgr. Marek Solczynski, Apostolic Nuncio to Turkey, will also address the audience during the welcome greetings.

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I has published numerous encyclicals and organized many conferences on ecology issues in the latest three decades. The Patriarchate of Constantinople has established a day of prayer for the protection of creation, marke throughout the Ecumenical Patriarchate on September 1.
