Greek Energy Min Discusses Environmental Issues with Mt. Athos Representatives

The installation of photovoltaic modules and the support of the Greek state to Mount Athos were discussed at the meeting of Kostis Hatzidakis, Minister of Environment and Energy, with the leadership of the Holy Community.

In the meeting, which was also attended by the Civil Governor of Mount Athos, Athanasios Martinos, the topics of biological treatment, fire pre plans of the forests of Mount Athos, as well as its inclusion in the Natura Protected Areas Network to protect the ecosystem, were also addressed, Orthodox Times reports.

Mount Athos is one of the most important centres of the Orthodox Christian world, consisting of 20 monasteries and approximately 2,000 monks.

Located on a Greek peninsula, it is home to the oldest surviving monastic community on Earth.
