Great-grandson of St. Luke of Simferopol baptized in Greece

St. Luke of Simferopol, the Blessed Surgeon, is a greatly beloved saint of the 20th century, celebrated throughout Russia and Ukraine and also especially in Greece.

According to a report yesterday from Romfea, the connection between the great saint and Greece continues, as St. Luke’s own great-grandson was baptized into the holy Orthodox Church in Nafplio.

St. Luke’s relatives were in Argolis recently to see the sacred church built by Metropolitan Nektarios of Argolis and to visit the seaport city of Nafplio, where they attended Liturgy in the Church of St. Luke and planted two trees in the parish courtyard.

On previous visits, the saint’s great-grandson, Alexei, who was born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan and lives in Belgium, asked to be baptized. Thus, Met. Nektarios celebrated the Sacrament of Baptism for Alexei in the Annunciation Church in Nafplio, along with the rector Fr. Eleftherios Mixo.

Alexei’s cousin and great-granddaughter of St. Luke and her husband Sergio served as the Godparents.

With great emotion, the newly-illumined Alexei thanked the Metropolitan of Argolis for this great spiritual gift and everyone wished him “to walk worthy of this great calling.”

St. Luke’s g reat-granddaughter, Tatiana Voino-Yasenetsky, was baptized by the saint himself the week before he reposed in 1961.
