Exterior lighting of Romanian Church in Olbia fascinates Sardinia press: “a true fairytale marvel”

Last week, the local press wrote about the charming appearance of the new Romanian Orthodox Church in Olbia, a town on the Italian island of Sardinia. The newly installed exterior lighting highlights the holy place.

“The original church in the San Nicola neighbourhood, already beautiful during the day, illuminated like this gives the whole neighbourhood a magical atmosphere,” wrote journalist Patrizia Anziani for Olbia.it.

The publication compares Orthodox Romanians’ new place of worship, illuminated in the night, with “a jewel of inlaid gold” and “a true fairytale marvel.”

The number of practising Orthodox believers is undoubtedly growing, and the parish is a point of reference for thousands of Sardinian families, the Italian publication also noted.

“In Olbia, there are almost 2,000, and in the whole region of Gallura (in the north-east of Sardinia), there are approximately 5,000”, Parish Priest Marian Găină told the journalists.

The church was built during the pandemic after Olbia City Council granted the parish a plot of land of 3,000 square meters at the beginning of 2021.

On May 23, 2021, Assistant Bishop Atanasie of Bogdania laid the foundation stone, and now the church is completed.
