Today, 5 February 2013, the annual meeting of the Eparchial Assembly of the Archdiocese of Buzău and Vrancea was held at the Patriarchal Residence. The activity unfolded in 2012 and the priorities for the present year were presented during the meeting. The Eparchial Assembly of the Archdiocese of Buzău and Vrancea was preceded by the celebration of the Te Deum service in the Patriarchal Cathedral by His Grace Varlaam Ploieșteanul, Assistant Bishop to the Patriarch. After Te Deum the members of the Eparchial Assembly of the Archdiocese of Buzău and Vrancea visited the building yard of the Cathedral for the Nation’s Salvation.

The event was held under the chairmanship of His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, as Archbishop locum tenens of Buzău and Vrancea, a vacancy created after the passing away of Archbishop of Epifanie Norocel.

To start with the meeting, His Beatitude read the synthesis report on 2012 entitled Diligence and generosity bore good fruit.

“The Archdiocese of Buzău and Vrancea printed, at the initiative and with blessing of the Hierarch, books, magazines, brochures and icons to support this work (for protecting the right faith, promoting the theological culture, theological seminarian education and the religious education in the state schools). We emphasise the activity of the publishing house of the Archdiocese of Buzău and Vrancea through the 6 works published last year: “Glasul adevărului” magazine, “Church Almanac” Yearly book, Prayers and teachings of faith, “Archdiocese of Buzău and Vrancea – historical data and images” monograph, the book of church history entitled “New church foundations at the Carpathian Curb“, and the homage book: “Discharge all the duties of your ministry“. As for the theological education, at the end of the school year 2011 – 2012, 203 boys were enrolled at the Orthodox Theological Seminary of “Bishop Chesarie” of Buzău. At the end of the same year, 52 girls were enrolled at the Orthodox Theological High School of “Saint Epifanie of Cyprus” – Rătești Monastery. 326 Religion professors (164 titulars and 162 substitutes) all of them with high theological studies are employed in the religious education in the state schools”, His Beatitude pointed out.

Last year too, the philanthropic activity remained a priority for the Archdiocese of Buzău and Vrancea.

The social – philanthropic activity of the Archdiocese of Buzău and Vrancea was intensified in 2012, especially because the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church declared the year 2012 as “Solemn year of the Sacrament of the Holy Unction and taking care of the Romanian Patriarchate“. In this year, the Archdiocese of Buzău and Vrancea unfolded multiple typical activities and organised many religious, cultural, scientific, educational and pastoral – missionary activities, some of them continuing during the next years too. Thus, in 2012, social programmes with permanent character were unfolded. We mention some of them: 10 social canteens with 480 beneficiaries; 3 daily centres for children with 50 beneficiaries; 2 daily centres for aged people with 18 beneficiaries; 5 centres of family type with 75 beneficiaries; 1 kindergarten with 60 beneficiaries; 1 protected dwelling place with 18 beneficiaries; 13 centres of information and advice with 1200 beneficiaries; 2 camps with 1600 beneficiaries. In 2012 – Year of the Sacrament of the Holy Unction and Taking care of the sick – the Archdiocese of Buzău and Vrancea supported persons in need and priests with four or more children, granting emergency aids amounting in all to 213.157 lei. Most of the emergency aids were granted from the Philanthropy funds of social assistance, from the Christian mercy fund of the Archdiocese of Buzău and Vrancea, as well as from the funds of the Eparchial Centre”, His Beatitude also said.
