Enthronement of first Orthodox abbess in Fiji

The first Orthodox abbess in Fiji, Eldress Melani, was enthroned at the Monastery of the Dormition of the Theotokos in Saweni, a monastic settlement under the jurisdiction of the Ecumenical Patriarchate’s Metropolis of New Zealand.

The enthronement ceremony was led by His Eminence Amphilochius, Greek Orthodox Metropolitan of New Zealand.

This was a unique event, since sister Melani is the first abbess in Fiji, being a native Fijian.

Until now, the monastery founded a few years ago had no spiritual director appointed. The ceremony was attended by Fr. Melethius from the monastery of the Holy Archangels in Levin, New Zealand.

Abbes Yuliani, of the Kehrovounio Monastery in Tinos, was also in Fiji for the Enthronement as Abbes Melani, together with Sister Anissa, spent one and a half years at the Monastery in Tinos.
