Church Painting of Chiajna Parish Consecrated by the Patriarch of Romania

Today, 6 December 2012, feast of Saint Hierarch Nicholas, Archbishop of Myra Lychia, His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, consecrated the painting of the church of “Saint Nicholas” – Chiajna, deanery of Ilfov South. After the consecration of the painting, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel celebrated the Divine Liturgy assisted by a group of priests and deacons.

Saint Hierarch Nicholas is an example of mercy and a symbol of generosity

His Beatitude showed in the sermon delivered that Saint Hierarch Nicholas is a model of mercy and a symbol of generosity: “It is an occasion of being merciful, of understanding that God-the-Father sends His Son as His Gift for the salvation of the world and we answer we other gifts to this gift of God. This is why Saint Nicholas is a teacher of generosity, of the gifts, and he is, by his own example, a promoter of the civilization of generosity. Thus, Saint Nicholas becomes a teacher of all kinds of people, of the most ordinary and of the most educated ones, of the poor and of the rich ones. Thus, he is a teacher who did much good through the example of his life and showed that the value of every person consists first of all in the kindness of his soul not so much in the dignity he holds or in his position in society, but in the kindness of his soul that makes him resemble Good Merciful God”.

The kindness of the soul always finds ways to help the fellow beings in need

The Patriarch of Romania urged the Christians to be close to those in need: “It is the time of generosity, of the good deeds, and if we do not have money for those around us, if we do not have anything material to offer them, then we can do it with a good word, a prayer for the sick and lonely, a visit to the bed of the sick one, either old or helpless, with a helping hand to the one who moves hard. There are lots of ways of being merciful even if we do not have money or material things to offer. So, the kindness of the soul always finds ways of helping the fellow beings in need”.

Orders and distinctions

To end with the Divine Liturgy, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel awarded the Order of Santus Stephanus Magnus for clergy to Rev Macovei Romica, mayor of Chiajna parish, county of Ilfov, order of Sanctus Stephanus Magnus for laic to Mr. Minea Mircea, Mayor of Chiajna commune, county of Ilfov, as well as the Diploma of Honour of Saint Andrew the Apostle to Mrs Cherciu Mariana, to Mrs Dumitru Ecaterina, to Mrs. Macovei Mariana – Eugenia, Rev. Macovei’s wife, and the Worthiness Distinction of Saint Dimitrios the New to painter Petru Botezatu. His Beatitude has also awarded the rank of iconom stavrofor to Rev.
